Sun Moon Lake
I recently visited Sun Moon Lake, one of the most famous landmarks in Taiwan. Sun Moon Lake is known for its unique shape, which resembles a sun and a moon intertwined. What separates this landmark from other touristic destinations? Sun Moon Lake is special because it combines multiple elements of nature into one frame. This lake is surrounded by towering mountains. The mountains are covered by lush trees and bushes which create crisp air. The weather is warm and filled with bright sunlight, unlike Taipei. This balance between heat and cold makes the climate perfect for different activities such as tennis, SUP also known as stand-up paddle board, and hiking.
At the heart of the lake lies LaLu Island, a charming and unusual feature. Encircled by a small manmade grass ring made with chinese characters. This ring was made for two purposes, one to protect the island from the public, and the ring was also made to preserve the culture of the aboriginal tribe called the Thao that used to live on the island.
On our visit to Sun-moon Lake, we got to experience SUP also known as Stand-Up Paddle Board, we weren't good enough to stand so I'll just call it Sitting Paddle Board. Other than that paddle boarding was very fun. We got to see LaLu Island in person. But just because it was fun, doesn’t mean it was tiring. Using a lot of strength on both shoulders for 2 hours. This region is also known for its high-quality tea, grown in the mountains with abundant sunlight and light rainfall. These conditions make it ideal to grow tea.
I’m very appreciative that I got to visit such a remarkable place. Our visit to Sun-Moon Lake taught me that not just the densely populated cities are fun, but the hidden gems are what truly make experiences memorable.
